The two groups met for the first time in July 2016 when the Lanai drama students took the ferry to Maui to attend MAPA’s production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, the culmination of MAPA’s Summer Musical Theatre Camp. After the performance, the Maui and Lanai students spent time talking story about performing and musical theatre.

On Wednesday, twenty LAPA students will hop on the ferry again to spend the day with the 56 students in MAPA’s production of Disney’s Mulan Jr. The day will be led by Devereaux Merchant, MAPA Teaching Artist, as well as Kathleen Schulz and Logan Heller, the co-directors of the show.

“The Lanai Academy of Performing Arts (LAPA) is excited to collaborate with Maui Academy of Performing Arts (MAPA) on what should be a great day of theatre games, sharing performances, and making new friends,” says Matt Glickstein, LAPA’s Executive & Music Director.
