UPDATE: Heavy rains over the upper slopes of Waiehu prompt Flood Advisory for Maui

At 4:15 p.m., radar indicated areas of heavy rain falling across the eastern part of the island, from upcountry to windward Haleakala to the southeast side of the island.  There is also renewed heavy showers over the West Maui Mountains.  Rain was falling at a rate of half an inch to an inch.  Since most of the heavy rain is falling over the higher terrain, expect rises in streams at the lower elevations even where rain is not falling.

Locations in this advisory include but are not limited to: Kahului, Honokohau, Paia, Makawao, Wailuku, Wailea, Waihee, Kaanapali and Pukalani.

The National Weather Service has EXTENDED the FLOOD ADVISORY for MAUI ISLAND in effect until 7:15 p.m..
