On O’ahu and on Maui, more than 2,700 Marriott hotel workers are participating in the Local 5 strike.
“Who are we? Local 5! Who’s getting mistreated? local 5! who’s… local 5!” “Who are we? local 5! who’s getting mistreated? local 5!” Local 5 workers chanted in Waikiki Monday.
They represent five hotels, the Sheraton Waikiki, Royal Hawaiian, Westin Moana Surfrider, Sheraton Princess Kaiulani, and Sheraton Maui.
According to the Local 5 workers, they are protesting for better pay, job security, and a safer work place.
The union’s contract is with “Kyo-Ya Hotels and Resorts.”
About 7,000 Marriott employees hit the streets in Boston, Detroit, San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland Monday.
The response by “Kyo-ya Hotels and Resorts” is as follows:
“We have notified our guests and business partners of the situation and are providing them with ongoing updates. We are committed to continuing our good faith bargaining and hope to resolve this situation in a timely manner.”
