MFD: Dumpster Fires Reportedly Intentionally Set

At approximately 8:30 p.m. on Sunday Engine 1 (Wailuku Station) responded to a report of a dumpster fire at 1748 Mill Street.

Maui Fire Department Engine 1 arrived on-scene and observed two dumpsters on fire.

The fire was extinguished and a structure associated with the property was examined for fire extension.

Officials say minimal damage was sustained to the structure housing the Ace Printing Shop as a passer-by noticed the fire and moved the dumpsters away from the building.

Evidence discovered during the investigation of the fire’s cause indicated that the fire was intentionally set.

Fire damages were estimated at $1,600 for the cost of the two dumpsters. There were no injuries to report.

The Maui Police Department is now handling the investigation. MPD officials are seeking the identification of a man caught on surveillance camera. Click here for the full story.
