Bodyboarder Injured in Makena Shore Break

A 27-year-old bodyboarder was injured by a large shore break at Big Beach in Makena on Saturday.

Makena Lifeguards along with an ambulance responded in the incident.

Officials say lifeguards witnessed the beachgoer go from the top of an 8-foot-face wave to the bottom, injuring his lower back.

The man was unable to get out of the water without assistance from lifeguards. Spinal precautions were taken and he was extricated from the ocean and taken to an awaiting ambulance.

The man was reportedly cautioned about the large shorebreak ahead of heading into the water.
