UPDATE: Power Restored to Residents Following Morning Outage

Updated at 3 p.m.

During a period of stormy conditions around 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday, about 3,130 customers in parts of Wailuku and Waikapu area experienced an outage when a tree branch came down on power lines along W. Waiko Road. All customers were restored at 11:47 a.m.

Also around 10:20 a.m. another 150 customers in the Kaahumanu area of Kahului lost power after a lightning arrestor was triggered. The Kahului area customers were restored around 11 a.m.

Electrical service has been restored to all customers in the Wailuku and Waikapu area, according to Maui Electric Light.

The company asks customers who may still experiencing an outage to contact our Trouble Line at (808) 871-7777 or toll-free 1-877-871-8461 for Molokai/Lanai.

Power outages in the Wailuku and Waikapu areas have been confirmed by Maui Electric Company and Maui County officials.

MECO crews are en route to the area. Officials have not reported the number of households without power.

It is also possible that traffic lights may be out and motorists should use extra care when driving and treat any stop light outage area as a four way stop.
