Due to current temperatures and wind chill, motorists are advised that there is black ice on the park road at the upper elevations (above 7000 feet) in Haleakala NP.

9:20AM UPDATE: Although the park road has re-opened, motorists are still being advised to use caution on the park road in case of lingering patches of black ice.

Current summit temperatures are 29 F with intermittent visibility at the summit.

Although temperatures are below freezing, there is NO SNOW in the summit district.

Motorists are strongly advised to use caution if they must come up to the park today and to strongly consider making alternative plans.
