Man Arrested for Arson After Wailuku Brush Fire

At 4:53 p.m. on October 2, Wailuku Patrol Officers were assigned to a brush fire in the area of Waiinu Road near the entrance to Sandhill Estates (Keoneloa Street) in Wailuku.

Maui Fire Department personnel responded and were eventually able to contain the fire. The fire was in close proximity to the roadway, the Sandhills Estates, and The Islands subdivision. No monetary damages were reported but approximately three acres of brush were burned.

Officers were able to determine through witness statements that the fire was intentionally lit by a 28-year-old Caucasian male identified as Brett Deccio, who has no local address.

Deccio was placed under arrest and transported to the Wailuku Police Station. He was charged for the offense of Arson II. His bail has been set at $5,000.
