Man Dies in Apparent Drowning at Kapalua Bay

Maui Fire Department personnel responded to Kapalua Bay on Saturday for a reported drowning.

Upon arrival, crews were directed to the beach fronting the Montage Resort where they found bystanders and hotel security performing CPR on an unresponsive man.

According to officials, witnesses reportedly found the man at the bottom of the ocean about 30 yards from the shoreline and brought him to the beach.

MFD crews took over lifesaving efforts, however, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 33-year-old from San Jose, Calif. was said to have been snorkeling.
