Good Eats: Piko Cafe

A true hidden gem, nestled in the heart of Kihei is a locally owned and operated brunch spot with outstanding flavors. Piko Cafe opened 3 years ago and is located in Kihei Shopping Center near Long’s. Blink and you could miss it, this corner cafe is a delightful, friendly spot with local comfort foods, excellent ingredients and superb standout dishes.

With a mission to serve a hearty Hawaiian-style plate lunch, the breakfast items are deliciously addicting. Served 8am-10:45am and some breakfast dishes all day, the cafe aims to offer something for everyone… Including Vegan Fried Rice, Ube Pancakes, Eggs Benedict and Loco Moco.

Fried Rice & Eggs

One of the items available all day included the Fried Rice with Char Siu and Eggs. The rice was perfectly prepared and had great flavor, especially with the char siu meat. Sunny side up eggs not only added color to the plate, but also were elegantly cooked and offered added moisture to the fried rice. The serving size is generous and leaves enough for a small takeout container.

The seemingly simple Cheeseburger was excellent. The all-beef patty is moist yet hearty and all the ingredients were fresh. The bread was lightly toasted, buttery and delectable. Meanwhile the fries were hot, perfectly prepared and this was overall a very solid combo. Great value also.

The standout was the Chia pudding served with creamy haupia, ube and topped with coconut chips. They also have other flavored puddings including: Honey Mango and Chocolate Chia, which I would love to go back and try. The texture is dense yet light and the flavors were absolutely incredible…sweet but not too sweet and the perfect balance.

With other items like Garlic Noodles, Fried Saimin, Mochiko Chicken and Banana Pancakes, I can’t wait to go back. The service is casual – as you order at the counter and they serve you your meal. So it is approachable and nice and cozy to relax inside or take togo. Open daily from 8am-3pm this is well worth the visit and your tastebuds will thank you!
