Firefighter Injured Tending to Makawao Blaze

The Maui Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Kealaloa Avenue in Makawao on Thursday morning.

Fire officials say that crews arrived on the scene to find a two-story structure with heavy fire on the first floor extending to the second story.

No one was within the residence at the time of the incident but firefighters were able to rescue the family dog from within the structure.

MFD reports that a firefighter was injured and transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center in stable condition.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. An initial estimate notes $250,000 in damages.
