UPDATE: Maui and Molokai now under flood advisories

The National Weather Service has forecast a heavy rain event for Maui County, starting today and lasting into tomorrow. Flash flooding will likely occur in areas along Hana Highway, windward areas, and East Molokai. The rain will be heaviest today, in the late afternoon and early evening, with over 10 inches of rain expected along with isolated thunderstorms.

Expect flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low-lying areas. Road closures are possible in some areas. Landslides are possible in areas of steep terrain.

Stay away from streams, rivers, drainages, culverts, and and low-lying areas, even if currently dry. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water on foot or in a vehicle…turn around, don’t drown.
